Looking for one of the neater Christmas lights displays in Columbia, South Carolina?
Consider checking out the Fireflies Holiday Lights at Segra Park, home to the capital city’s minor league baseball team, the Columbia Fireflies.
We’ve gone every year since our daughter Aaliyah was born and have been really impressed with the Segra Park holiday lights and it sure feels like it will become an annual tradition for us.
If you’re considering seeing the Segra Park lights yourself, read on to learn what to expect during the annual Segra Park Christmas lights based on our experiences, including information on the 2026 Fireflies Holiday Lights dates and ticket prices.

Fireflies Holiday Lights at Segra Park
The Fireflies Holiday Lights at Segra Park is, in my opinion, one of the best Christmas lights displays in Columbia.
Held annually since 2022, there are tons of lights on display here in a fairly small and accessible space, along with some neat other activities. The cost is also fairly reasonable, especially compared to events like the pricier Wild Lights Christmas Lights at Riverbanks Zoo.
If you’re looking for a nice Christmas lights show that won’t break the bank, doesn’t require driving in backed up lines of traffic, and that doesn’t require tons of walking, it’s a really good option and is both family friendly and adult friendly.

2026 Segra Park Christmas Lights: Dates, Hours & Tickets
Below you’ll find info specifically on the 2026 Fireflies Holiday Lights at Segra Park.
Farther down you can get a more detailed look at what to expect based on our visits the last few years.
The info here is up to date as of the publication date at the top of the article, but you can check the event’s website to verify.
2026 Christmas Lights at Segra Park Dates
For 2026, the Fireflies Holiday Lights at Segra Park event will run from Friday, November 20, 2026, to Sunday, January 3, 2027.
The Christmas lights at Segra Park will be closed on the following dates:
- Thanksgiving Day (11/26)
- Christmas Day (12/25)
- New Years Day (1/1)
In other words, the Segra Park lights will be open every evening between November 20 and January 3 except those three nights listed above.
To be clear, that does mean it will be open on both Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.

2026 Fireflies Holiday Lights Times and Schedule
Fireflies Holiday Lights will be open from 6 pm to 9 pm nightly.
Last entry to the Segra Park holiday lights will be at 8:30 pm.
There are special hours for New Years Eve (12/31), when it will be open 5 pm to 8 pm.
2026 Segra Park Lights Tickets and Prices
The website for Fireflies Holiday Lights lists the following ticket prices for 2026:
- $10 advance tickets for dates in November
- $12 tickets day of for dates in November
- $12 advance tickets for dates in December and January
- $14 tickets day of for dates in December and January
Note that there is an additional $2 service fee when buying in advance on the MLB app as well (so, really tack $2 extra on to all the prices above).
The Fireflies do strongly encourage buying online, but also list the following phone number for the box office to purchase tickets to the Segra Park Lights: (803)-726-4487 ext. 1. The website also says the ticket office is open everyday from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm and from 6-8:45 pm during the Fireflies Holiday Lights.
It’s not clear if going and buying directly from the ticket office will save you the $2 online service fee or if they simply help you buy them online and still give you a digital ticket.

Segra Park Igloos: Prices, What’s Included & Is It Worth It?
There are 8 private igloos that you can rent as well for a more exclusive experience.
Each igloo has a cost of $198 per night.
The igloos accommodate groups up to 6 and, in addition to access to the igloo from 6-9 pm, include the following:
- 6 admission tickets
- Charcuterie board
- Bottomless hot chocolate and coffee
- 6 bottles of water
- 12 fresh baked cookies
- Ability to purchase beer, wine, and canned cocktails for additional fees
That price works out to $33 a person.
Are the Igloos at Segra Park worth $21-23 extra per person?
I don’t recall the exact price of hot chocolate and coffee in years past, probably in the $4-6 dollar range. Tack on a few bucks for water and a few more bucks for cookies, and I’d estimate you’re getting roughly $10-15 of value in food and drinks.
So, these might be worth it if you think you’ll definitely buy snacks, definitely do some serious hot chocolate drinking, and think you’ll spend a fair amount of time in the igloo.
While this is an event where you’ll want to walk around and see the lights themselves, that really doesn’t take more than an hour tops.
So, I think your decision really comes down to deciding if having an encolsed igloo to hang out in for a while is worth another 10 or so dollars a person.
On an exceptionally chilly and windy winter night, it would probably would be quite nice and cozy in those igloss. Then again, you might not use it much at all on those random warm winter days that characterize this time of year in Columbia!
If you’d like to make an igloo reservation, you can do so online or over the phone. Be aware that online reservations for the igloos also charge the $2 per person service fee. I went through the checkout process but stopped short of purchasing to verify myself.
So, they really work out to a true price of $210 or $35 per person.
For what it’s worth, there is a calendar on this page that shows that the igloos sold out the majority of nights in 2025. If you do want to get the igloo, it’s probably worth reserving in advance.
The website also says there will be a limited number of 10 person igloos available but prices are not published. See more info on the igloos and the number to call to reserve on this page.

Segra Park Lights Discounts
Seniors (65+), first responders, and active and retired military do get a $2 discount.
The event’s webpage does state that groups of 20 or more can also get a discount as well as discounted snack vouchers. Check this page for more info on group discounts.
Children 2 and under get in free to the lights at Segra Park.
However, children 3 and up do pay the full price.
The Fireflies did do a flash sale with $10 pick any date tickets in mid-October 2026. We actually snagged out tickets that way!
I saw this flash sale announced on their Instagram page with a link to the ticket purchase site that automatically applied the code Holiday10.
So, I’d recommend keeping an eye on the Fireflies Instagram and the event website to see if they run any other sales or discounts.

Should You Buy Your Tickets in Advance?
As you can see above, tickets bought the day of the event do cost an additional $2. So, you’ll end up paying $4 extra or have to wait in a line at the box office and pay the same as if you had just purchased them online at least a day ahead.
I’d say that’s a good enough reason to buy your tickets in advance.
In addition to saving that $2, you also get a guarantee it won’t sell out.
However, for what it’s worth, we’ve gone several years on weeknights in the weeks leading up to Christmas (early to mid December) and were able to get tickets just a few days in advance.
So, based on our experience if you have at least some flexibility on dates, you shouldn’t need to get tickets far in advance.
Obviously that’s no guarantee it won’t be different this year, especially since this event is still relatively new and growing in popularity every year.
In fact, according to this press release from the Fireflies, 5 nights sold out in 2025, and nearly 60,000 people total attended while the Segra Park lights were open!
So, if you have firm dates, want to go on the weekends, or plan to go one of the days immediately before Christmas itself, I would suggest snagging those tickets a bit earlier because they are much more likely to sell out.
What to Expect During the Segra Park Lights
Featuring over 2 million lights, during the Fireflies Holiday Lights, Segra Park transforms into a dazzling scene of lights and Christmas cheer.
Obviously, the main point of this event is to see Segra Park lit up with Christmas lights, but there are some additional things to see and do as well.
See Tons of Christmas Lights
If you read my guide to Riverbanks Zoo’s Wild Lights, a rebrand from their Lights Before Christmas I remember fondly as a child, you’ll see it’s not so much a traditional Christmas lights display anymore but more like a wildlife lights display that happens to be around Christmas time.

If, like me, you kind of miss the old Christmas lights at the zoo, the lights at Segra Park are definitely much more of a traditional Christmas lights display.
You’ll see Christmas trees, elves, presents, snowflakes, gingerbread houses, and just about everything else you’d expect in a Christmas lights display.
Befitting its location in a baseball stadium, there are also some baseball themed displays.
For example, expect to see elves manning the bases around the infield, and some of my favorites from years past have been the batting practice displays around the first base side of the berm.
In the outfield there is a town setting, and there are usually some animal lights set up on the berms in centerfield too.

Best of all, there is a massive light show that runs periodically throughout the night as well when lights on the field and the stands blink and flash in sync with Christmas music!
It’s always really neat and has been different every year. So, seeing what they have in store this year will be exciting.
I should point out that the displays do change every year. While they aren’t radically different, they aren’t the same either. So, you shouldn’t feel like you won’t get your money’s worth if you’ve been before.
We’ve enjoyed it going 3 years in a row now, and still feel like it’s a new experience every time.

Meet Santa Claus
Well, what would a good family friendly holiday lights event be without Santa?
You’ll find Santa at the Fireflies Christmas Lights in his sleigh, located near the gift shop on the main concourse of the first base sideline.
Meeting and posing for a photo with him does not have any additional cost and is included in the price of admission.
Santa is present for meet and greets, Christmas present requests, and photos at the Segra Park Christmas lights every night from 6:30 to 8:30 up until December 23.
In our experience, there’s usually not too bad of a line, but it’s never been all that crowded when we’ve been either.
I do feel that sometimes, waiting until a bit later can be a good way to avoid the longest line just after the initial rush at opening, but that can always vary and might depend on your kids’ bedtimes too!
I will also add, it’s been the same Santa every year we’ve gone so far, and he’s a good Santa. Looks good and is very nice and good (and patient!) with kids.

Pose with the Giant Christmas Tree
Any good holiday lights event has to have a great Christmas tree too!
You’ll find the giant 40 foot tall Christmas tree on the far side of the left field concourse, down the third base sideline.
While from a distance it just looks like lights, as you get closer and see it with the spotlights they keep on it, you can see ornaments and other decorations too.
We’ve never had too much trouble getting a photo here due to crowds, but it is tall enough that it can be really tough to get the angle to pose with the full tree.
The best photo might actually be taking it farther away with you in the foreground and the tree in the background.
There is also a photo station as well as plenty of other great photo ops around the lights.

Walk Around the Field
One thing we did not realize the first year we went, is you can also walk the entire path around the edge of the field!
Actually, in 2024, Aaliyah walked nearly the entire field, as she was just starting to walk holding hands. Walking the warning track was great practice for her and it was a lot of fun for us to see her show off.
Seeing her get excited while alternating holding Mommy’s, Daddy’s, and Nana’s hands will be a great and lasting memory of what seems to be becoming an annual tradition for our family.
It’s totally worth walking the field even if you aren’t getting in some toddling practice. You can see the lights displays on the field up close and get some neat angles of other lights.
Plus, there are cool light tunnels you can walk through.
Ride on the Fireflies Express
Because what would a family Christmas event be without a train!
There is a small train for children 12 and under that makes the rounds of Segra Park during the Fireflies Holiday Lights.
You can find it loading passengers along the outfield concourse.
The train makes a loop around the concourse and should be lots of fun for younger kids. Older kids will likely think it’s a bit tame.
Aaliyah rode this on our 2025 visit for the first time and got a kick out of it.
Aaliyah loved that too!
According to the Fireflies Holiday Lights official website, train ride tickets cost $5, and children under age 4 do have to be accompanied by a paying adult. However, infants under age one can ride free with a paying adult.
There was also a neat Christmas tree truck carousel style ride in 2025 that Aaliyah rode and loved. However, it’s not mentioned anywhere on the official 2026 page.
I’ll be curious to see if there are any other rides or attractions this year.

Do Some Christmas Crafts at Santa’s Workshop
A conference room along the first base concourse houses a Santa’s Workshop where children can do arts and crafts.
Sponsored by Home Depot, Santa’s Workshop is open every night of the Fireflies Holiday Lights and the activities are included in the cost of admission.
Complete a Scavenger Hunt
Visitors can participate in a scavenger hunt, looking for hidden things in the lights displays around the park.
Prizes are available for successfully completing the scavenger hunt.
Enjoy S’mores, Hot Chocolate, and Other Treats
Well, what would a good family friendly holiday lights event (or a baseball game, for that matter) be without some good ole overpriced concessions?
Honestly, in fairness, prices here aren’t all that unreasonable compared to some other events like this nowadays.
You’ll find hot chocolate and cider at the concession stand down the first base foul line. It’s decorated nicely with a fun light display too.
You can also buy s’mores kits here and there are a handful of fire pits where you can roast your marshmallows.

There are other snacks available there and at other concession stands and carts around the park too, including traditional ballpark food like pizza, chicken tenders, popcorn, nachos, and sodas.
They also have chili and soup as well as freshly baked cookies available during this event.
For adults, there is beer, wine, canned cocktails, and specialty cocktails, as well as spiked hot chocolate and cider available as well.
If you go for a cocktail, you can get a fun lightbulb cocktail cup souvenir with the specialty seasonal cocktails. For example, you can sample Grinch Pump.
Keep in mind, Segra Park is a cashless venue, but concession stands accept major credit and debit cards.
If you only have cash, you can exchange it for a gift card at Guest Services to use at the concession stands and gift shop.
However, any money you don’t spend will remain on the gift card and you won’t be able to get cash back.

Buy Some Fireflies Swag
Of course the gift shop is open!
The Mason Jar shop is open every night of the Fireflies Holiday Lights, and they often have discounted merchandise.
Merchandise from special events from the past season (which ends a few months before) is often on clearance during this event.
One year they even did a 12 days of Christmas with certain items on sale different nights. You’d have to check the event website to see if they plan to do any special promos like that again this year as they are usually announced last minute.

Buy Some Other Swag
The Fireflies Holiday Lights event also hosts other corporate sponsors and vendors.
So, there should be other tables with gifts, merchandise, and services set up you can browse while you take in the lights and sip hot cocoa too.
Additional Practical Info for Fireflies Holiday Lights
I’ve covered buying tickets in advance and if you should be worried about sell outs above, but let’s talk some more practical advice and go over some logistics of visiting the Fireflies Holiday Lights.
Parking for the Christmas Lights at Segra Park
Parking in the Freed Street Parking Deck is free for up to 2 hours before 7 pm. After 7 pm, parking is free regardless of how long you park.
So, if you come after 5 pm parking here is free for the entire event. If you park there before 5 pm and stay longer than two hours, you’ll have to pay $3 for the first hour and $1.50 for each additional hour.
There is also a good amount of both paid meter as well as free street parking around the stadium, For example, there is non metered street parking just a couple blocks away on Gregg Street by the parks there.
The gravel and grass lots nearby are also used for parking.
I do suggest arriving before 6 if you want to secure a parking spot close to the stadium.
Inclement Weather and Rain Checks
Keep in mind the Fireflies Holiday Lights is advertised as a rain or shine event.
If weather is very bad or if it’s very windy, it’s possible some areas might be closed. The infield concourse area is covered, in the event there’s rain in the forecast.
If there is very severe weather, it’s possible the event will be cancelled. The Fireflies Holiday Lights website and social media channels are the best source for immediate notifications if the event is cancelled.
In the event of cancellation, you can exchange your ticket for another day, pending availability.
To do so, you’ll need to visit the box office (you can see the hours in the ticket section above) or call 803-726-4487 ext. 1 with your order number handy.
They do not issue refunds, even in the event of cancellation due to weather.

How Long Does it Take to See the Segra Park Lights?
I’d suggest most people plan for around 90 minutes to see the Fireflies Christmas lights at Segra Park.
If you just want to make a loop around the park and see all the lights, maybe grab a hot chocolate or spiked cider while you do it, you could do this in under an hour.
If you have kids and want to take pictures with Santa, ride the train, leisurely stroll the field, pose for photos as you walk around, do some crafts, hit the gift shop, and maybe make some s’mores, you might need 2 hours or even more.
Is There Assigned Seating?
All admission tickets are the same, and with the exception of the igloo rentals, there aren’t assigned seats or anything like that.
The main point of the event is to walk around and see the lights, after all.
There is first come first served seating at tables near some of the concession stands (mostly by the first base foul pole and a few more in the outfield).
Clear Bag Policy
The normal clear bag policy for Segra Park is in effect during the Fireflies Holiday Lights.
That policy allows clear plastic bags with logos on one side up to 12″ x 6″ x 12″ as well as non clear small clutch purses no larger than 5″ x 7″. Gallon sized clear freezer bags are also allowed.
You can double check the full details of the policy here.
Keep in mind this does apply to diaper bags, as we learned the hard way on our first visit!
Strollers and Wheelchairs
Strollers, as well as wheelchairs, are allowed in Segra Park.
There is an ADA elevator down to the field to the right hand side of the Wicked Weed bar near the main entrance to the stadium as well.
There are spaces to park strollers along the main concourse by stairs down to the field too.

Will You Go to See the Lights at Segra Park?
Now you have a complete guide to what to expect during the Fireflies Holiday Lights at Segra Park.
We’ve really enjoyed this the last few years. We went for the first time in 2023 when Aaliyah was only about 2 months old, and we’ve been back every year since.
It will be one of those memories we cherish as one of the first things like this we did with Aaliyah just a couple months after she was born, and we look forward to taking her little brother Ezra in 2026, and going for years to come.
It’s a great lights display and a fun evening family outing, and I would definitely recommend checking it out.
If you do go, I hope this guide was helpful for you in planning your visit. I’d love to hear what you thought in the comments!
Cheers and Happy Merry Exploring!
